Delegate FAQ
A: GWCIA, the Greater Washington Conference on International Affairs, is a one-day Model United Nations conference for middle school students put on by the George Washington International Affairs Society that is held annually each year. This year will be our Sixteenth Annual Conference.
A: GWCIA will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2011.
A: GWCIA XV is taking place on the Foggy Bottom campus of The George Washington University in Washington D.C.
A: MUN is short for Model United Nations. Model United Nations simulations are designed to teach participants about all the dynamics of international affairs, diplomacy and international organizations. MUN conferences include lots of debate, learning and interaction with a diverse group of fellow students.
A: The committees for GWCIA can be found under the “Committees” tab in the GWCIA website. Your Model UN advisor or whomever is submitting your registration forms also have a list of committees. Be sure to tell your advisor which committee you prefer when registering for GWCIA.
Q: What are background guides and what are the committee topics?
A: Background guides for each committee will be posted online prior to the conference for delegates to reference during their research period. The topics of each committee, as well as a detailed description of each topic are provided in the background guide. The guides are written by the committee chairs and serve as a great first step for delegates to begin their research on their topic and their country position.
Q: How do I prepare for GWCIA?
A: In order to get into the role of the representative a delegate is playing, preparation is necessary. Each committee will have background guides that will introduce you to the topics you will be discussing. These background guides will provide additional links to find information and suggest avenues for future research. Delegates are encouraged to study information regarding their committee debate topics and also their specific country positions.

A: The names and contact information for each committee can be found under the committee tab of the webpage. Feel free to contact your chair via email with any questions you may have about your committee or debate topics.
