Faculty FAQ

How do I register my students for GWCIA?

Registration for GWCIA is done in two phases.  Early Registration for the Early Registration fee rate begins on October 7th, 2011.  Regular registration begins on October 8th and ends on October 21st.  Once the registration period begins you will be able to access the registration application form and information regarding payment right here on the GWCIA webpage.

How can I help my students prepare for GWCIA?

The best way to help your students be well-prepared for GWCIA is to ensure that they have thoroughly researched the countries/positions they are representing. A general knowledge of the history and general culture of their respective countries is important, but a genuine understanding of government policies and relevant political events is essential.  Information found on reputable online sources is abundant and this manner of research is efficient for the students.

To acquaint yourself with parliamentary procedure, on which GWCIA committee structure is based please see the “GWCIA- Rules of Parliamentary Procedure” document found under the “Conference Information” tab on the webpage.

What are background guides and what are the committee topics?

Background guides for each committee will be posted online prior to the conference for delegates to reference during their research period.  The topics of each committee, as well as a detailed description of each topic are provided in the background guide.  The guides are written by the committee chairs and serve as a great first step for the students to begin their research on their topic and their country position.

Do my students need to write position papers?

Position papers are required for all delegates. Encouraging delegates to research and write a position paper is also the best way to increase their confidence in debate during committee sessions.

Who runs GWCIA?

GWCIA is run by members of the International Affairs Society, who are students at George Washington University. Secretariat members and all other GWCIA staff are students who are typically studying international affairs and participate in collegiate-level Model United Nations or participated in Model United Nations in high school.

Who can I contact if I have any questions?
